I am Viktor Pankovics anatomical preparator. I am working in the Semmelweis University in Hungary, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embriology where I deal with creating various preparations.

The studies and writings of scientists, philosophers or artists on anatomy can be found from long-ago in the history. These studies trace back before Christ. As time passed a number of historical figures dealt with this topic like Galen, Vesalius, Harvey and Leonardo da Vinci. Some of them have done besides the scientific work of observation a high quality artistic material by making documentation in the form of hand-made drawings. With my works I would like to support the creation of real high-quality elaborated preparations based anatomical atlases and scientific materials. Both lecturers and students take great advantage of real human teaching materials. The institute's photo materials of its own preparations appears not only during the direct necrotomy practices, but also on practical exams and on lectures of professors. Today, beyond formalin and alcohol many preservation techniques exist, with which fine (high quality) wet and dry preparations can be made. During preparation the description of highly detailed pathological disorders has same importance than the presentation of anatomical structures.

I hope the real human and hand-made materials will play again an important role in the medicine and the anatomical preparation as a profession could regain its artistic and scientific value.
